Visiting family in Minnesota with my other half (Amber)

May 8, 2009 22:02, comments: 2

My sister and her kids decided to move back to Minnesota so Maxyne, Amber and I somehow got coaxed into driving all thier stuff back.  Myah’s van and our “grandma car” were packed full of her stuff and we started our journey.

My good friend Steve lent us his walkie talkies and we were off to a good start until this man in a white car started passing and following us for a good 5 hours.  We finally found out that our conversations were not “private” and decided to ditch our stalker.  After we devised an ingenious plan on our cellphones we got back on the walkies and said we were taking the next exit and stopping at McDonalds.  “Lincoln CB stalker” was ahead of us at the time and promptly slammed on his brakes and made the exit.  We felt so brilliant and ended up stopping at the next exit after to get gas.  Shortly after we noticed the Lincoln circling the McDonalds (how convienent) accross the street.  We hightailed it out of there and never saw him again.

That was the beginning of our 32 hour drive across half of the United States.  Our favorite part of the drive was the snacks and our the worst part of the drive was the whole thing.   We intoduced Amber to our hometown of Montevideo, MN and after seeing the whole town in 15 minutes she called and thanked her mom for raising her in what she had originally thought was a small city, Pittsburgh.  We have now been here for a whole week and are ready to get back to the sunshine of Arizona.  The family is doing great and it was a lot of fun catching up with everyone.  I will post more pictures soon.

  • I’m surprised you guys didn’t go all “Amber Show” on the stalker and mess w/him somehow using the CB’s. I ran into that when I moved from Memphis, TN to Dayton, OH but then again, I had a giant moving truck and car trailer in tow to scare ‘em away too. Montevideo can’t be much smaller than the town I grew up in in Wisconsin, Wausau.

  • wow man, i guess it wouldn’t be a vacation without some random crazy experience huh? wow he followed you guys for 5 hours? he sure had a lot of time on his hands and plenty of gas to burn. well hey, at least you guys had a good time. as the old saying goes, there’s no place like home. one more thing, in that one interview when you said you were flexible, did you mean physically? lol. nah but seriously, hope you had a good memorial day weekend. have a good one.
